I’m sure most of us have used the image-sharing platform Pinterest at some point in our lives, whether it is to make a mood board for a wedding, to look for inspiration for a home renovation project, or we accidentally clicked on a Google image only to fall down a rabbit hole of scrolling aesthetic Pinterest boards.
As of the second quarter of 2022, Pinterest has 433 million monthly active users and is the 14th largest social media platform in the world. While this number might have some people who, like us, use Pinterest casually, a large chunk of people rely on the platform as a source of income. If you are curious about how the platform works and what people do on it, here is a list of the various ways you can use the platform professionally.
How does Pinterest work?
Before explaining any of the ways people use the platform, I think we need to do a quick crash course on how the platform works. Pinterest is a platform that people typically use for inspiration and ideas for their hobbies. This would be best explained with an example.
So, let’s say you are interested in fashion and see people discussing a new style of dressing on Instagram. But before you suddenly decide to revamp your closet to fit this new style, you can go on Pinterest. When you search the name of the style on the platform, you will be met with hundreds of outfits that match it. You can then click on the “save” tab and save the images (called pins) you like the best onto your own account. You can also make a specific board (a collection of pins that have the same theme) for this style.
